Wood Floor Steam Cleaner
Looking for a Wood Floor Steam Cleaner?
Many so-called “steam cleaners” on the market do not actually turn water to steam. Instead, they spit out water with a cleaning solution, and use brushes to scrub surfaces free from dirt and stains. These are specifically made for cleaning carpet, although some do come with add on attachments, so that you can also use them on hard flooring surfaces.
However, because they use water and not steam, they are not good for cleaning wood or laminate floors.
You do not want to put a lot of water on this kind of floor.
The answer then is steam mops.
Although steam mops are not a new concept, they are definitely finding more and more applications. So many homes have wood, laminate, and tile floors now that these tools are becoming a necessity.
Hot steam dissipates quickly, which makes it much safer to use on wood floors than water. It is definitely one of the best ways to get wood floors clean, aside from hands and knees scrubbing. It actually does better than hand scrubbing because of its sanitizing effect.
Now, obviously, it can be potentially harmful – if you hold the hot steam mop head in one place for longer than recommended. However, using it as directed, you will find that it does a super job.Steam mops should not be used on unsealed wood floors. Obviously your wood floor should be sealed for preservation anyway. This is just common sense.
Steam is an excellent cleaner. Steam softens the grime and dirt and so it can be easily removed. And when you think about all the filth that gets tracked in on the bottom of shoes, the sanitizing ability is certainly a plus.
There are several important things to consider before buying a steam cleaner.
STEAM TEMPERATURE: this is primary. The hotter the steam, the more dirt picked up and the better the sanitizing.
WATER CAPACITY: Having to stop and add water repeatedly adds time to the cleaning.
SIZE: A wider head gives more coverage, reducing cleaning time. Taller height means less stooping.
BOTTOM TANK: Easier to handle and does not let steam cool traveling down the handle.
WATER TO STEAM: You want to get one that does not require pushing a button or trigger to pump water to the steam head.
CORD LENGTH: Get one long enough that you do not have to stop and unplug.
CONSTRUCTION: You want a unit that is well built and sturdily constructed to last.
STEAM HOLES: More steam holes spread out over the head give better coverage.
